After winning 4 times in a row, the Vattenfall Solar Team from Delft was defeated this morning (17/10) by the Belgian Agoria Solar Team from Leuven.
The 2019 Winners!
The race has never been so exciting. Until the previous edition, the gap between the various teams after 3 days of racing was several hours, and the winner was more or less known by the penultimate day. This year, the gap between the teams was sometimes just a few minutes. It became clear once again that not only technology, but also the weather, tactics, and stress resistance play a major role.
The burnt-out car from Delft
Delft was a few minutes behind Team Twente and was ramping up the pressure. A sandstorm blew the chased Team Twente off the road, resulting in irreparable damage. A day later, Delft was chased by Team Leuven, who had reduced a 40-minute deficit to less than 8 minutes. To stay ahead of Leuven, the car was pushed to its limits, which unfortunately caused the Delft car to burn out completely.
3D Printed hinge part in the cockpit
Agoria Solar Team participated in this challenging race across Australia for the 8th time. After more than 1.5 years, the hard work is finally paying off. The Esma team from Maasmechelen is therefore very pleased that we were able to supply various 3D printed metal products and milled parts to these promising students from KU Leuven again this year.
